Weeeeeelllll, theres not too much happening at the moment. Loads of riding going down though.

Tonight is a little "best trick" jam at The Shed in stellenbosch. R10 to enter and winnner takes all. Should be fun considering they have moved the big grind box/driveway over to the other side ot he park, where the Spox was. I'm so amped to go hit that setup and put my DayLife pegs through another beating. They are holding up great!

See you at the park. I'll be the guy with the angry face who is snaking everyone.

Daylife will be making 7075 and 6082 marine grade alu sprockets in different sizes and colours. You can expect them around next week. prices for parts coming soon.

Seems like the "fountain" stem is holding up to Werner M's beating. No problems yet, although we are busy with a bit of tweaking here and there. (rounding some edges of and might split the front end) .
When Werner M is done testing his stem, it will be past on to Basil for further demolishing.

Animal "Cuts" DVD

Well, I got my "Cuts" DVD in the post from BMXDirect and DAMN IT"S GOOD!

I love Animal/Skavenger/Skapegoat DVD's and edits because the riding is so accessable and is full of "tricks" that I acutally have a chance of doing. The DVD runs at just over an hour of solid riding with no fancy editing and a good mix of music. It features the whole Animal team and has two mix sections of other well known riders too. If you liked any of the other Animal DVD's, this is a must.

Well I finally got my MP prototype frame to test for Salvo. I’ll be running this for a month or so and giving Salvo feedback along the way. Then it’ll get passed onto another well known CT rider to test and give his feedback as well. Check Salvo's blog for photo's taken while the frames were being made and close ups of Malcomn's personal 21in red, danger machine.

First off the build quality is awesome. The guy who welds all the frames for Salvo, welds airplanes for living, so I was expecting a good finish. The end product is even better than that. The welding is top notch and you can see the guy knows whats he’s doing and is proud of his work. Coupled with the post-weld heat treatment process, this makes for a tough, clean looking frame.

My frame is raw and there are no "burn marks" around the welds because the whole frame was reheated and this makes all the tubing basiclly become one unit and all the tubing ends up the same colour again.

All the tubing is aircraft grade 4130 imported from the USA and even the headtubes and BB shells come from FBM! The top and down tubes are 1.2mm thick straight gauge tubing and the whole frame still only wieghts 4.65lbs. The shorter headtube with the 75* angle makes for a lively feeling frame and feels great for front wheel tricks. The downtube has a neat hollow gusset on the underside too to add some strenght.

The back end is 13.4in slammed and my 25/9 ratio fitted great. The dropouts are micro to say the least and they hide away very nicely behind my pegs. Even with running 2 hub guards, my rear wheel slotted in perfect and I had the whole bike built up in under 30mins.

The seat and chain stays are not capped at the ends and this gives and nice effect and saves a little weight too. My frame does not come with brake mounts but frames can odviously be ordered with a choice of top or bottom mounts.

Thats it for now. I’ll be filming a little edit this week and you’ll get to see the frame in action.

This has been under wraps for a little while but some rumours have been floating around. Well here it is, the DayLife stem. I'll post all the technical info later, because nobody ever reads this stuff anyway, but for now just take look and enjoy. To order this and other DayLife parts call Werner at 076 744 3592.

After using the DayLife pegs for over 2 months and enjoying every grind and stall, I am really excited to give this a try. The pegs RULE and I think they are the best pegs I have ever used. BUY SOME, you won't be sorry.

Langebaan update!

So I missioned up to Langebaan this Sat only to find that the place was getting painted. Who paints a park on the most popular day of the week is beyond me. Numorous cars pulled up when I was there and losts of wheelspinning and comments were heard from people leaving again.

I must say that this is the most creative design that I have seen in Cape Town. I've seen "plaza" designs in DVD's and magazines but to see one in real life got my creative juices flowing. I really can't wait to ride this place. Well done to the designers and the construction guys who made it. It's top notch.

I did hear one of the foremen complaining about a BMXer who gave him some back chat the other day and told him to F-off, and I'm not too happy about that. If you go there and get cocky with people, you are just making it worse for the next BMXer who rolls up. Not alot of people like bikes and if you're going to go around making more enemies, one of your enemies is going to be me. Respect the park, respect the other skaters, riders and locals and don't piss anyone off!

hey whatsup, weve been building pretty hard for the last month or so, so we though it would be cool to have a jam day so everyone can come ride, chill and have a good time at the improved Soet Vlei trails.

The trails are on the corner of Soet Vlei Road which is off Firgrove Road in Constantia. The jam will start at about 1 and end pretty much when it gets dark so pull through any time between then.

Well we had a good ride at Gen-X today with riders coming out from Northern and Southern Suburbs for the day. Most of the action was on the new dirt jumps and here's some photos. (If anyone puts these on their FB, please tag me in so I can see the comments, if there's any).

Charles is a Gen-X local and is getting better by the day. He's only bee riding for about 8months and is a standout eveytime.

Kim has some good boost.

Stephen Savage always puts on a good show. He 540'ed this jump too.

Nicolas is also a Gen-X local and was doing big 3's down the main line.

Werner H of DayLife was trying this whip over the hip a few times but the really soft landing was give him problems. Next time.

Thanks to everyone for coming out and to those that helped me rebuild the frst landing. I'll have these jumps running nice soon.

As some of you might have heard, the comp never happened. With 3 days of solid rain, on tuesday night the park was still flooded and the dirt jumps where not ready. I still wanted to have the comp (because I knew it would dry up in time) but when I heard that there were no other prizes, except the few I got from Giant, it was better to just cancel.

Come Wednesday afternoon the park was dry and the jumps had been made ridable by using a metal kicker to make a hip into the second landing, making it a 2 jump setup. Some great riding went down and some new tricks were unleashed by guys that don't usually ride dirt. Kim had some great style and no-handers over the "hip", James 180'ed the last jump (freecoasters rule!), everyone was doing 360's, no-footers and tables, Scott bar'sed it, Wayne Gorton has the biggest tuck no-handers, Jason and Donavan both had good runs all day too.

We'll be riding there again this Saturday afternoon and shooting some photos for WCBMX and FB. Stay tuned.

Gen-X youth day comp (UPDATED)

Wednesday the 16th is a public holiday and to celebrate Youth Day, Gen-X park is having a BMX comp. Things kick off at 4pm, so be there early to get some good warm up runs in. Entry to the park for the day is R20, wether you watch, ride or enter the comp it's still R20. Bargain!

It will be a combined dirt AND park comp giving riders the option to ride ANYTHING in the park they want. Hit the dirt jumps, the bowls and then the park (or visa versa) 'till you puke!

Confirmed prizes so far are from Giant and Vans Shoes. More details to follow.

I'll be working on the jumps this weekend and they should be running by Wed. This will be a good time. Spread the word and DON'T MISS THIS ONE!

UPDATE: The jumps are looking way better than last week and there are now 3 jumps and a large 1/4 pipe at the end as well as a monster roll-in to start things off.

CT's best riders are coming out for this with guys like Stephen Savage, Malcolm Peters, Werner M, Werner H, Killian, Paul Brusser, Wayne Reiche(back from injury?), Carl, Wayne Gorton, Scott Owen, Brandon Blight, etc all saying that they are coming through. The Gen-X locals are on fine form too with Jason Batt placing 3rd at the Son Skate comp this past Sat. Things are going to get crazy for sure.

Weather predictions are for no rain on Wednesday but the rush will be on to empty the bowls. Anyone planning to come early on the day, your help would be great.

Yep I do! Pegs are fun and the things you can do at any random spot are almost limitless. Here Giant's Alex Raban shuts down a spot with some trickery. I hope this inspires riders to go put some (DAYLIFE) pegs on.

Sport Unlimited giving back!

Ross from Sport Unlimited just let me know that they are building a big indoor skatepark in Tokia area. Work starts next week and it should be done by end of July. Words like "spine", "10ft vert wall", "5ft quarter into.......", "street section" where mentioned. It will be bike friendly and have seperated sessions for the rides. I mentioned evening sessions to Ross and I think they'll hook us up. Looking forward to it.

Sport Unlimited have helped out and sponsored some good comps at the Bellville park as well as helping with the successfull "Via the Backroads" trips. If you are looking for some skate/surf/sneakers stop by one of their shops and see what thay have.

The Riot has teamed up with the Sunninghill skatepark and now have their parts for sale through the store there. Mel and Brent, who used to do the Alex Groll Cup comp each year in CT, are running the park.

Now the JHB kids can stop squinting a their PC screens and pick up some good parts while riding a fun looking park. Check The Riot for more info.

I hit Canal Walk last night to go feed my PS3 addiction and stopped by Boogaloos. Here's some shots of the other colours of the Osiris shoes I got a couple weeks ago. I'm VERY happy with these shoes. Built strong, comfortable and light. GET SOME!

I also stopped in at City Cycles and was impressed by the selection. I don't think another store in SA has the range that they do, all in one place. Check them out if you are looking for some BMX bikes or parts. It's still the best place in CT to buy BMX products.

Gen-X dirt jumps preview.

Rumours have been flying for a while now and last week it was made offical that Gen-X would be putting in some dirt jumps. Well, three days later and Steven had built this and it's looking good. Just have to sort out the spaceing and then clay them up. I'm very excited about this and I think the first offical session is going to be nuts.

BMX Comp at Skatelab, George!

Every year Skatelab hosts the F*ck the Buck skate comp and they also have a BMX comp either the weekend before or after. This year the comp is on the 3rd July (Saturday) and it should be a blast. The last comp had about 20 riders from CT go up and about 20 guys from P.E. come down and had a good comp. (Search YouTube for the video "George BMX Comp")

Ali has sorted out some accomodation for the weekend at really good prices so if you don't fail your exams and have time to make it up there, GO!

Langebaan action!

We headed up the west coast on sunday and rode the Langebaan park. It's still not finished but still a blast. The flyout of the bowl was a big hit and got heavily sessioned. Here's some photos.

Wayne and the "Backroads" crew came through for their first skate and loved the place. They were in the area doing some promo stuff for RedBull and seemed to like the bowl alot.

We left around 2pm and passed Savage and his boys on thier way to the park too, so this place got really worked but about 25 riders and skaters all day.

Word is that it'll be full finished in about 3 weeks and I've already sorted out a demo for the openning day. Details as soon as I get them.

Life seems good on the west coast.

Shot and edited on a Sony Ericsson. Daylife's new Nylon covered Alloy pegs tested on a rough brick ledge during my lunch break.

Werner's been getting lots of calls, emails and orders for the DayLife pegs and at least one mailorder has shown interest, which means that guys outside of Cape Town should be able to get these soon too. Here's a quick edit of the pegs in action. These slide so well on brick and are like lightning on coping.

Werner, work with GS Tool and Die, is also working on prototypes of full CNC'ed stem's, barends and some other little secrets. Stay tuned.

DayLife Alloy/Plastic Pegs! (info and price updated)

This is the completed product from Werner Hendrich at Daylife, made through GS Tool and Die, and I must say I am impressed. These are well made, light (135gr for 100mm) and even after only a couple of grinds at Gen-X today, I can already say that these will last.

Werner can make these in 85mm, 90mm and 100mm lengths and has multiple colour options too (Low friction nylon sleeves in Black, Red, Green, White and Yellow. Alloy cores in Anodised Blue, Gold, Bronze, Black, Natural and Green). Mix and match to suit your tastes.

I just got word that I'll be on the "test" team for the new SalvoBMX freestyle frame that is coming soon. Malcolm Peters designed the frame, so it will be his signature model, with the angles and lenghts that he is looking for. The materials arrived today and they'll start welding them in a couple of days time. I'll be getting a slightly shorter version and trying to beat the crap out of it over the next couple of months. I'll let you know when I get it and you are encouraged to ask me for a spin on it.

MY JOB RULES! These will be hitting stores early next week. The tyres are very limited as we are testing the response before ordering loads for Sept/Oct. These should be around R220 and are 110psi, folding and light! The Waffle is 2.125 and the Sole-o is 2.1.

Thats the new colour of the super popular Sole-o grip (Green and Blue in stock too) and the new colour of the Fade pivotal saddle. Hit your local store and ask them to get these.

We also got the Bull bars and 3D forks in Black now too as well as the maroon colour way.

There is going to be a big dirt building mission on at The Farm just outside of Richwood this Sat. With all the rain, it seems like a sin to miss out on being able to build. The Farm is a great spot as it's a good size for guys who want to get into dirt jumping. Things kick off as early as posssible. Bring a spade, a smile and get ready to ride! I'm off to go put some new Giant Waffle dirt tyres on my bike.

Yes I do! Mid's and Hightops are by far the best shoes to ride in and offer ankle support that I really like. This with the added advantage of no "ankle bites" makes for a no brainer when it comes to looking at new sneakers. Boogaloos usualy have a good mix of shoes but with their site being down, and me working too hard, I lost track of what they have.

Well today I went to Canal Walk and they have these Osiris in a couple of crazy colours. (More colours HERE) These are around the R1100 mark and look tough as nails. The international BMX team looks like this: Josh Betley, Sean Burns, Rob Darden, Anthony Flores, Ben Hucke, Ryan Nyquist, Miles Rogoish, Darryl Tocco and Marcus Tooker so I feel good about supporting a company that is helping out some of my favorite riders.

Nothing ever goes smoothly. The Giant Team cranks missed the boat and will only be in SA at the end of May. In the meantime, the Forks, Bars, Stems, Grips, Barends, Pedals and some tyres will be here around the 10th May. Can't wait!

Here is a quick run around the new park in Langebaan up the R27 highway on the West Coast. It's 120km from Table View to the park and takes about 1 hour to get there. The park is nowhere near finished and will only be officialy opened in September, just in time for Summer. They will be putting up a fence soon and charging an entry of R5. Well worth it.

The only complaint I have is that all the coping is stainless steel and anyone who designs/builds a park should have known that stainless steel does not slide. I hope the handrail down the stairs isn't going to be the same. Other than that I like the layout, the bowl is awesome and there's some good lines to be done here.

I did some riding in the edit too so you can get an idea of the size of the park. Enjoy.

Get a grip in winter!

With winter coming and the trail season on the horizon it might be time to look at some gloves. These gloves rule, they keep you comfortable, clean, give better grip and don't make you look like some MX goon. These are my personal pair and have lasted me through some good crashes and keep on going. More photos and info below
These feature a full thumb and forefinger Terry cloth covering for use as a sweat remover.

Some gloves have too much padding in the palm and cause the glove to bunch up when gripping the bars. The added padding also makes the bars feel like they are the size of a coke can and the rider loses confidence when riding with gloves as apposed to bare handed. With minimal padding but still offering good comfort for longer rides, these gloves are a winner. Look for these at your LBS for around R249.00 or ask me when you see me.

Here are some more photos from Kevin Schnider of the Langebaan park which is about 1.5hours up the West Coast. This has been in the works for a while and the guys at Cape Sports Club are the ones behind this project. It's still going to be a couple of weeks before it's done. I've approached them about doing some kind of demo at the Grand Opening, so we'll see. There is accommodation across the road from the park and a cheap camp site nearby too. I can see some good weekends away happening soon. Thanks for the shots, Kevin.

If anyone goes to this park, or any other park, please go with a good attitude, don't snake the locals, don't litter and don't balls it up for everyone else. Thanks.

Sorry that I haven't posted Brandon Blight's "Cape Town BMX" edit but I'm having problems with Vimeo at the moment. Really sucks that it takes about 25mins to get to 25% and then hangs. It's a realy good edit and I think everyone will enjoy it.

In other news I got some sample Piv posts this week in Alloy or Carbon wrapped alloy and they are very well priced. I'm trying to get some imported but the min quantities are huge. If you know another 299 riders that would like these, then let me know.

This is the Carbon wrapped alloy post and it's about 15% lighter than just alloy. If you see me out riding, take a closer look. Yes, I run my seat high. Function > Fashion.

I made this video in 2002 and only a few people have ever seen it. I filmed a lot of the Table View, Town and contest stuff but got loads of tapes from Wayne and Buddy and edited it all together to try show a good all round view of Cape Town riding at the time. This video also features a section of Karl Pentalow from my home town of Rushden in the UK who can totaly shred a mini and did the first whip to manual I had ever seen.

I worked, drank, rode and hung out with Karl in 2002 while I was in the UK. Great guy and good rider doing his own thing. Take note that he was riding a old beatup frame with 1in streerer tube and most of the time with a 1pc crank. He was happy and rode better than most. We even cut up my Mongoose Importan frame, that I was using at the time and used it to make gussets on this frame, before I went back to SA.

I'll be uploading a new part every couple of days so check back and have a look at how Cape Town BMX has progressed.

Bothasig Banks and abandoned parks

Last weekend we made a little trip out to a spot I haven't been to in ages, the Bothasig banks. These are real fun and abit tricky because you have to watch the traffic during the runup and the landing into the car park. It was so good that we went back this week and got some video clips. You'll see them soon.

This was Jason Batt's first time here and he did these nice tuck no-handers.

Scott Owen is always good to ride with and he did his first 180 bars that day. The one I got on video this weekend is too smooth. I also got footage of Eddie, Savage and Willie all doing some good moves.

On Friday I took my wife out to Houtbay for a scenic drive. I also went around to look at the park that they had there. I say "had" because I don't know where it all went. This used to be an awesome park, even though they were extremely bitchy towards bikes. Maybe if they let bikes in they would have made enough to stay open. It won't be long before these left overs are gone too, so HIT IT WHILE YOU CAN!

We are all off to Stellies tomorrow for abit of riding and filming. Brandon Blight is working on an edit right now and I'm toying with the idea of making some edits too. Anyone want to pimp my computer for me? This this is a heap.

Well, even with the rain we still had a good session at Westridge, with about 10 guys coming through and hitting it hard. We didn't get any photos before the rain but we'll be going back again soon. Stay tuned for the details and don't miss out. This park rules!

There's also another park opening in CT soon (about 2 weeks) and I've got the inside info on that one. Once everything is sorted out I'll let you know about when and where. It's going to be good! Outdoor, concrete, middle of nowhere. Great for weekends away and not too far either. I'm amped and you should be too.

As the FB guys will know I'm putting together a group ride at the Westridge park in Mitchells Plain this Sat and everyone should be there at 12ish.

The easiest way to get there is to go all the way down VANGUARD DRIVE until you get to the big shopping center on your left. Turn left into MORGENSTER rd and travel down till you hit DU DUIN Ave and turn right. The park is basically where the "N" of Mitchells Plain is.

This is a really fun concrete park and has ledges, rails, banks and quarters. If you have pegs, you should put them on because this place is awesome!

Ok so I'm off to this tomorrow and I'll be trying to update the blog with some spy and insider photo's during week.

This is the biggest bike show in the world and will be showcasing bikes and parts from all the major players in the cycle industry. This is where you find out who makes what parts for who and what's really behind all the different brands. This should be really interesting. Thanks to Dragons Sports for the fully paid trip.

In other news, there are at least two video projects in the works and we got some good clips and crashes today at N1 City. A BIG thanks to everyone for a good ride today.

When I get back I'll be organizing a massive park ride at the Mitchells Plein park. Loads of rails, ledges, hips and quarters. Def gunna be fun. More info soon.

I saw the new Snafu add on Vitalbmx earlier today and it featured the name "Illingworth" which is pretty cool that Greg Illingworth is getting some international fame and support. Also on the site where these shots of stuff that will be coming into SA shortly. Some of these are already here but I don't remember seeing them long Hexigon pegs anyhwere. I've used the Shorty versions and thought they were great. I can't wait for these longer ones.

Here is the intro for the Goodtimes DVD. I got a copy from Hank yesterday while the guys where riding Gen-X park. They are down for the Pro-X comp(that I've heard s way behind schedule and nowhere finished for tomorrows comp).

Pretty good vid with some good riding. Barnes is always good to watch and D-star has more balls that control, which isn't a bad thing at all. Loudon has his barspins waxed. There;s some good clips of Blaze and Paul Brusser in there too as well as Eddie Botha. Theres loads of park and dirt riding in this too with a good mix of PE and CT clips.

All in all it's good vid with loads of good riding. It's free too so thats a bonus.

Now if I could only get a copy of the Font dvd's that I'm supposed to be in?

Ok, so time to pay the bills, haha. I'm running a 2010 Giant International "Method 01" frame with the new Giant Bullbars, Fronty stem, 3D forks and Plastics pedals. These parts are great, well priced and SA is the first country, world wide to have these parts.

I'm also riding the ABC sprocket and some Animal tyres and seat.

I'll be upgrading to the new Giant Cranks and folding tyres in a month or so when they come in. Can't wait. 22mm 48 spline? You bet!

Ultimate X - HOT HOT HOT!

Yeah it was hot. Like 35+ hot on a perfect day with almost no wind and good crowds. The BMX demo was a chilled event and the jumps were well thought out with a two staggered launches into the first double and then a steep second face that saw some great tricks.

The standouts today were the usual crowd pleasers. The Riot's Malcolm Peters had the 360's, Whips and even a few double whips down, all with his usual style and effortlessness. He also rides for OSP who put this event together. Big shout out to Markus for another great event.

As always Wayne Reiche, also repping The Riot and Iron Fist, was pulling great Turndowns, Unturndowns, 360 tables and when Rupert called for the Frontflip, Wayne delivered. Clean, first go.

Jason Hood is a loose cannon (I think I've called him this before?) and he had some great off-axis flips, whips and this stretched no-hander. Take note kids, this is how they are supposed to look.

Here's Malcolm with a dipped 360 and 360 table. Always nice. I heard he's now on Vans Shoes. Nice one, Keith!

Colin Loudon (The Riot, GT, Fox) had these Flip Turndowns dialed and some other trickery too.

If you don't know this guy, you don't know nothing! Fly Bikes' Buddy Chellan.

Riding for RedBull must have it's advantages. Buddy spreads the wings and likes to just float about the crowds. Nice turndown here and a Nac-Nac in the shot below.

Other standouts were Chris Bester, Dwayne, Kim and Jason from Table View. As I'm posting this there are still guys at the Ultimate X comp, riding, drinking and watching Jack Parow. Look out for more photo's to pop up around the net because Eric Palmer and Craig Koleski where also shooting.

Mother City Street Riot!

Firstly, THANKS TO ALL THAT CAME OUT TODAY FOR THE RIDE. We had a good crew of about 40 riders, of different skills and styles and we all met up on time, which is a big deal in CT. Savage got a flat from some last minute spoke replacement but after 10 mins, we were ready to roll. With most of the shops in this area still open, we hit the "Red Banks" down the road.

Although not technicaly riding today, Wayne set to work making the spot more user friendly by removing a branch or two from an over hanging tree.

Eddie Botha started things off with a barspin on the steepest part of the banks and got himself a R50 voucher from The Riot.

If you throught Eddie Cleveland did some slow barspins then you haven't seen Scott Owen ride. Nice bars to fakie and some ally oop bars attemts too from him.

Johan has been overseas in the US driving trucks around for the past 8 months but is back with his big pop. Here he hopped up and over the rail then turned around and hopped back over into the bank. R100 voucher from The Riot was his.

Werner Mathee is on a learning curve that is almost vertical. With big moves like this hop whip and loads of technical variations all day, I'm very scared of how good he'll be in a years time. This kids middle name is "progression".

I have a soft spot for anyone who runs pegs in CT because there isn't alot of us. Killian has been stepping up his grinds lately and it makes me smile. I knew this rail was right for him and we took a ride to go get it done. This rail is outside of an old age home and is usually a bust after 30sec. Killian pulled through and under abit of pressure, he got it done first go. We got cornered by some cops, about 30mins later and 2 km away, telling us to stay away from the old age home. R100 voucher to Killian from The Riot.

Mr Colin Loudon is in town and he says he's going to be "local for while". With moves like this hop whip, I don't think anyone is complaining.

I also got a great sequence of Wayne doing a quick manual to 180 off that ledge on the right, but it'll take me some time stitch that together.

We then went of search of a curved wallride in some sketchy area but found this rail setup instead. Blaze set to work with a hop in to 180 out.

And Clemie did this wallride over the rail to hop out the other side. Both great moves.

Some of the guys then headed off in weird directions and/or got lost. Scott, Josh and I headed back to the warehouse area and got some grinds and gaps on. Here's Scott with a good manual to gap. Everyone then met up back at ToysRus where this happend......

The low light of the day was when Lyle went for a hop over a fork high rail with a 1.5 meter drop on the other side. We cased back wheel and went straight to the face. He slid a good 30cm on his head and came to a moaing holt. After some ghetto medic work from Killian and a few others he was back on his feet. Tough kid.

Well thats it for now. Thanks again to The Riot for the vouchers and supporting something thats over 1000km away. Colin should be putting an edit together soon too so watch out for that one because there was some great stuff that I missed. Also check out Killians blog for more photo's over the next coupe of days.

Filming for The Riot's team dvd is in full swing and I shot this quick one of Wayne filming Savage doing this rail hop in Maitland. Having guys like this on your team should make for a great dvd.

Keep kids on bikes with ABC

That's right . I spoke about the cheaper range of parts that I was getting in through Dragons Sports and the first shipment is here. These 3pc cranks are full cromoly and feature a 19mm 8 spline spindle. The sealed bb's are sold separately and come in USA, Spanish and Mid. Crankset pictured below should be around R280.00 and BB's around R230.00. Do the math and you get a sealed bearing, cromoly crankset for R550.00!

Here are out two new sprockets. Both come in 25t or 28t. Full alloy construction and lightweight. The green is only available in the lighter design and the Red in the stronger beefier design.

Again R279.00 each and the cheapest, quality sprocket around.

Check your local bike shop for these products later this week. ANY bike shop in South Africa can get these products for you. Just go ask for it and tell them to call James @ Dragons Sports.

Here is the range of GiantBMX parts that are available right now. Check your local bike shop and if they don't have it, tell them to get it, haha. Prices do range from shop to shop but these are what you should be paying for the parts.

The Bohan "Bullbars" are up-to-date with the trends of big bars. Big and wide bars offer better handling and easier spinning. Dimensions are 27” wide, 8” high, 3 degrees rise and 9 degrees of backsweep. These are made from 100% Cromo, 11 butted tubing to save weight but still be strong and are heat treated for extra life. R499.00 in Maroon.

The Giant "3D fork" made of 100% Full Cromo tubing and also carries the heat treatment for great strength to weight properties. These come with Tapered and Butted legs for a clean slim look and also have an integrated lower bearing race and 6mm machined dropouts. For 10mm axles only. R850.00 in Maroon.

The "Fronty" stem is CNC machined from 6061 T-6 aluminium and features hollow 6mm bolts and laser etched Giant logos. With a 52mm reach and slim design these will be a hot item. R315.00 Black or Maroon.

Perfect partner for the Bullbars is the new "Sole-O" grips. Super soft and at only R45.00 Team Blue or Neon Green.

The Giant "Plastics" pedal with a light yet strong plastic body will keep the weight watchers happy. Strong and easy on the shins. These also grind real well. Using the same mould as some other companies but at almost half the price. R125.00 in Clear and See Through Black.

For those that are looking for maximum grip and hassle free pedals then the "Team" pedals are the way to go. Full Alloy pedal with Sealed bearings in a slim profile pedal. Great for the dirt jumpers. R299.00 in Black.

The "Fade" Saddle uses the Pivotal technology and features some slim padding and low profile shape. Again a weight watchers delight. R150.00 in White.

Good Times

Well after 3 days of 40km winds, we had a windless afternoon in the Mother City. We also had the annual Cape Minstrel Festival (previously know as the Cape Coon Festival) so parking and traffic was a nightmare. We had a bigger turnout this time round with about 35 riders and a bigger percentage of "heavy hitters" so the riding was pretty crazy. Greg and Brad Illingworth from The Riot were in town for New Years and came along for the ride.

The H-street stairs were the meeting place again and loads of combos went down on the 3 flat 5 stairset. Always a good spot.

Here is Werner with a 360 off the "Big 4". Jason also 3'ed these and Greg tuck to-handed them too. We got kicked out pretty quick, so we moved on.

Killian got a good grind in at Cape Tech. This skinny ledge had a crappy pavement right in front of it, but he got in done. Check his blog Killianbinthetree.blogspot.com for more photo's of the day.

Seth (Whitey) took us to this steep hill to weird rock jump in Cape Tech and Jason just sent himself off it a couple of times. Total style and landing past the second shadow.

I've already been asked a couple times about when we will have the next group ride and this time we'll be in the Bellville area and I'll get a date sorted out and let you know. I'm also trying to organize a "tricks for cash" style comp but more on that soon.

Yep. I got some messages about when the next Cape Town street ride will be and with the fact that The Riot bothers are in town, to film for the shop DVD, we might as well make it this Sat. Start the new year with a bang, hey? So anyone who's down for some street riding in the mother city, meet at H- street again, AT 2pm, and lets do it.

Here is a sneak peak at some of the Giant BMX Parts that are coming into SA yearly next year. I've eluded to prices in some previous posts but will let you know the final pricing closer to the arrival time. They will be very competative. We'll also have the "Fade" slim Pivotal seat and "Team" sealed bearing pedals and the new Sole-O Grips in Green and Blue. Check some of the parts on Chris Arriaga's bike check here. These are true quality parts made in the same factory as all the other top brands so you know you'll be getting good value and parts you can trust.

Keeping kids on bikes!

When I first started working at Dragons Sports I wanted to use our overseas contacts to get in some good quality and yet still affordable bike parts. I'm glad to say that our first shipment of these parts is on the water and due early Jan 2010.

We realised that most kids, who buy an entry or mid level bike, will need to upgrade their parts within the first year and cranks and BB's tend to be high on the list. However, buying a R2500 bike and then having to spend R1500 on cranks in the first year is a serious problem for most riders. Most kids/parents can't afford or justify spending this amount on kids bike and most will just sell the bike and never ride again.

Dragons Sports will be filling the mid range void and bringing in these cranks and BB sets. These should retail around the R599 for a set and will come with either USA, Mid or Spanish bearings.

There will also be 25t and 28t sprockets in Anodized green and Anodized red. These will be around the R260 range. (Photos of these when they arrive.)

Here are images of the Unsealed mid bb, USA, Mid and Spanish sealed bearing bb's as well as the 13d Cranks. Cranks will include arms and spindle with bolts for sprocket and axle. BB's sold with all spacers. These are only avialible in 19mm spindle and bearing sizes.

Town mission a big success.

Well if you weren't there you missed out. No footage was taken on the day as everyone was riding. Good stuff went down and some great spots were sessioned. About 25 riders came through from all over Cape Town and I think everyone had a good time. Standouts were (in no order) Clemi, Savage, Killian, Scott, Josh, Grant, Zane, Kim, Brandon, Ruan, Eddie, Jacque and some others who names I don't know/remember.

We all met at H-street and were glad to fine that the fence around the red statue has gone and made for a good warm up spot with a dual level manual pad setup. Of coarse the stairs got a work out too. Around the corner someone found some knee high jersey barriers that got a good beating too. 360's, 180's and grinds were in effect.

Next we hit the Artscape opera house and got a good 15 min session on the stairs and ledges there. Security was good and only asked us to leave once someone with a mic in his hand complained that the people inside were watching us and not him. Killian did an ace Icepick across the flat ledge.

Sharks is always a fun spot and the usual tricks went down there too, as well as Tibault Square. Savage nailed a great nollie 360 down the "big four" before we got ask to leave there too.

Then we headed of to CapeTech to the "Drop that Eddie Tailwhipped". So little people know about this spot but they've seen the photo on my FB and were glad to finally see/ride it in person. It got a heavy session from everyone but Scott shut it down with Tuck nohander, Tire grab, Toboggan, nofooted cancan and a turndown. Grant and Savage 360'ed it and Eddie barspun off the side. Best spot of the day?

We finished off with a session at the CapeTech ledge across the road. Killian did a good febble and Zane double pegged it after a few crashes. Big up to both of them.

Thanks to the 20 or so guys that came through for the ride. I think the next one will be even bigger and there are loads of spots that we didn't get too this time. I've already started planning for the next ride and it will be the first week of Jan, when everyone has recovered from New Years. Spread the word and lets make this one even better.

Here is a map to the meeting spot for Saturday's street ride. We'll be meeting at Hertzog Blvd (H-street) at 2pm and will be adventuring from there. Make sure some of you bring tubes, pump and some spanners, as we will be doing some heavy pedaling around the CBD. The weather is going to be great so bring your friends, see some good riding and have some fun.

We'll, I got a new frame from Giant during the week and I am having a great time on it. It really feels good. The geometry is perfect for me. We also had a mini premier of the new "Via the backroads" dvd at my place this week. Real good DVD which is centered around a month long roadtrip through SA, Swaziland and Mozambique all via the backroads and searching for spots and things that have never been skated or ridden by bikes before. Lots of good skating and BMX trickery in this one.

This morning a whole bunch of riders came through to the Gen-X park in Parklands. This is a realy fun, laid back park with a bit of stuff for every type of rider. The bowls are busy getting repaired but still saw some action. With guys like Savage, Clemie, Scott, Josh, Zane and returning riders like Donovan and Grant in the mix, you know it's going to be fun. I just got my new Giant Method frame, which kicks ass and I put it to some use this weekend. He's an oversmith grind at the Gen-X park shot by my long lost sidekick, Donovan. He's back on his bike and learning new things too.

There's a big street ride going down in Cape Town CBD on Saterday the 19th. We'll be shooting photos and getting some filming done. Check my Facebook status for details later in the week and see you ALL there! (notice, there's no question mark - JUST BE THERE).
